Summer
Exploring the Dolomites in summer is a truly unique alpine experience. Stunning scenery and long summer days provide the perfect setting for relaxation or adventure.
Dolomites Alpine Holidays is our summer holiday operation. We can organise accommodation and transfers into villages such as Cortina, Campitello, Canazei, Selva Val Gardena and Corvara in Alta Badia. Besides accommodation in the main villages we also have access to mountain chalets.
The Dolomites vast network of well-marked trails is perfect for walking, trekking or mountain biking. There are routes suitable for all ages and levels of ability, including the exciting “via ferata” steel cable climbs. You can also enjoy horse-riding, road biking, rock climbing, paragliding and fishing.
For a more relaxed pace, there are the summer village festivals showcasing fantastic local food and wine, leisurely strolls from village to village along the valley floor or rejuvenating spa wellness centres.
The summer season starts in mid-June and runs through to early October. During early summer the fields are bright green and full of wild flowers.
Mid-August is the peak summer time and it can be very busy, with a minimum stay of at least a week or more required by many hotels.
By September the first autumn colours start to appear, the crowds are gone and it can be a beautiful time in the mountains. The days are serene and the nights are cooler.
The higher mountain areas can be easily accessed by the modern lift system; all the main cable cars and gondolas run in the summer holidays. Imagine spending a day walking back down to the village through alpine meadows, stopping along the way for a refreshment or lunch at a mountain rifugio.
The strikingly beautiful Dolomites mountains have been recognised as a World Heritage Natural site and local Ladin language and culture has also been preserved.
